Royal Family: The Queen’s most expensive necklace worth £66m, she was only loaned to Kate Middleton

The Queen’s Jewels are a source of fascination and admiration for many of us, Her Majesty has an unrivaled collection of gems and jewellery, some pieces worth millions. Jewels are often seen at official engagements and key royal occasions, giving us all the opportunity to marvel at unique pieces that have also been worn by some of the youngest members of the royal family.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted wearing some of the Queen’s jewelery on several occasions, including on her wedding day when she wore a Cartier halo tiara. Kate was also seen sporting the most expensive jewel in the Queen’s collection, the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace.

The £66.3million piece, featuring more than 50 diamonds set in platinum, was given to Princess Elizabeth in 1947. Kate has worn the stunning piece of jewelry on several occasions to complement her dresses during engagements.

The necklace was first worn by the Duchess of Cambridge in February 2014 for an event at the National Portrait Gallery, paired with a navy Jenny Packham dress. The Duchess wore it again in December 2019, when she was photographed wearing the piece of jewelry at a diplomatic corps reception.

Daena Borrowman, marketing manager at jewellerybox, told the Express“It was a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth of the Nizam of Hyderabad, one of the richest people in the world.

“The Nizam reportedly generously asked Cartier to let the bride-to-be choose whatever she wanted from their collections, to which the young princess chose a tiara with three detachable flower brooches and what we now know as the Nizam of Hyderabad Necklace Necklace.

The Queen has worn the necklace in numerous portraits before her coronation and it appears Kate is the only other member of the Royal Family to have seen her wearing it more recently. The Queen has also regularly let her grandchildren and younger royals choose from a gorgeous collection of tiaras for their weddings.

Meghan Markle wore Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau tiara when she married the Queen’s grandson Prince Harry in 2018, which is worth £2million. Princess Eugenie dazzled as royal bride in 2018 when she wore the Queen’s Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, valued at £10million.
