Karnataka: Karnataka Tourism Minister Anand Singh’s ‘expensive Diwali gift’ has sparked a row. According to reports, Singh, who represents Hosapete constituency, presented lavish gifts to elected municipal officials and Panchayat members in his constituency. Notably, the invitation for Lakshmi puja at his house arrived in a box, which reportedly contained Rs 1 lakh in cash, 144 g of gold, 1 kg of silver, a silk saree, a dhoti and a box of dried fruits. . The Minister’s assistant informed that he offers the said gift boxes every year.

According to reports, Singh distributed two different types of gift boxes to members of municipal corporations and members of the gram panchayat. The gift box to members of the municipal corporation contained Rs 1 lakh in cash, 144 g of gold, 1 kg of silver, a silk saree, a dhoti and a box of dried fruits. The gift box for panchayat members, however, contained less silver and no gold, but all other items.

Gift controversy

Singh supporters have spoken out on the issue and said the minister distributes gift boxes to elected officials every year, but a controversy arose this year due to the upcoming election. They also noted that in addition to elected officials, officials and other important personalities also received gift boxes.

Minister Anand Singh has yet to respond to the allegations.
